The Law School of Guangxi University was founded in 1937, and its predecessor was the Law Faculty of the National Guangxi University, with its address in Guilin, Guangxi. In the ‘Great Restructuring of Law Faculties’ in 1952, it was merged into the Zhongnan College of Politics and Law, which is today's Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. During this fifteen-year period, the Law Faculty of Guangxi University produced 269 graduates.

Reform and opening up and the restoration of the college entrance examination helped Guangxi University usher in the resumption of legal education. In March 1983, Guangxi University resumed the establishment of the Law Department and began to recruit undergraduates in that year; in 1994, the Law Department began to cultivate master's degree students, and in 1997, it was renamed as the Law School. After 41 years of rapid development, the School of Law has always been at the forefront of legal education in Guangxi in terms of cultivating excellent teachers, innovating academic research, training excellent students and serving the construction of the rule of law.

There are now 12 full professors in the Law School of Guangxi University, as well as 15 associate professors, 13 lecturers or assistant professors and 11 faculty members. They play an important role in providing high-quality legal education, cutting-edge research, legislation and law enforcement.

The School of Law of Guangxi University grants master's degrees in all branches of law and legal disciplines and enrolls 150-200 undergraduate law students each year. There are now 567 master's degree students and 650 undergraduate students. The Law School of Guangxi University also offers a part-time in-service master's degree programme in law. As early as 2011, the School of Law has become one of the first batch of ‘Excellent Legal Talent Cultivation Bases’ approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

For a long time, the Law School of Guangxi University has been focusing on the pioneering research of legal theory, and has accumulated strong influence in the field of civil and commercial law research. In the past five years, through the introduction of outstanding teachers, the School of Law has strengthened the research in economic law, constitutional and administrative law and made important breakthroughs and progress, published high-level academic articles in important journals such as China Social Science and China Law, and won the major project of the National Social Science Foundation and a series of achievements.

Combined with the characteristics of Guangxi University, the Law School of Guangxi University has also carried out extensive research in the fields of international law, civil law, criminal law and criminal procedure law.
